Staying Connected with Your Teen® Program Goal

The Staying Connected with Your Teen program draws on extensive research that demonstrates the critical importance of parent involvement in reducing or inhibiting adolescent participation in antisocial behaviors. It is part of the positive youth development movement that:

  • promotes bonding and resilience
  • offers opportunities for youth involvement
  • builds skills to develop healthy behaviors
  • provides recognition for skill-building efforts.

The goal of the Staying Connected with Your Teen program is to prevent problem behaviors among teens by helping parents acquire or improve a variety of key parenting skills and techniques. Problem behaviors include:

  • substance abuse
  • delinquency
  • violence
  • school drop-out
  • teen pregnancy.

Parents who participate in the program learn and practice skills for improving communication and building stronger bonds with their teens.
